I am also a Jeter collector. I have been collecting sine 1990 when my son got me back into collecting. Even though I have over 250K cards in my collection. The 2500 Jeter cards are far an away my favorites.

I love these card chat articles, Please don't stop

Thanks so much, Tom. I have way more than my Jeter cards too, but like you, those held a precious place in my collection. Congrats on such a massive collection!

Another great edition of Card Chat! I’ve always had great admiration for individual player PCs because for me personally it’s hard to stay disciplined and focused like that. My collection is based on Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees. Then on top of that I have a few individual player PCs with the David Justice one getting the most attention. With all that it makes it extremely difficult to even attempt to super collect any of it without winning the lottery. I’ve tried taking on a few not so extensive player collections like Keenan Robinson and Kenny Vaccaro from Texas and have about 90% of all the Robinson cards and probably close to 80% for Vaccaro but the sampling is minimal so not too difficult to do. I’ve also been working on Thairo Estrada stuff for awhile since he’s a Yankee and we share a last name but it’s tough to pay higher amounts with a chance he may not pan out so I try to stay within a limit I feel comfortable enough should I have to take a loss. At the end of the day for me it’s still about me enjoying how I collect over the investment or value of it.

With regards to the Presidential Pins, I agree 100% that they are a really nice addition to this year’s A&G!

Thanks for the Chat!!

I've always been that way. I have favorite shows, but I'm usually more drawn to a character or actor. The great thing about collecting though is that there is no wrong to do it. Whether you're a player collector or a team collector or your collection is based on what you love with no rhyme or reason, it's still perfect!

Quite a while back I remember playing a board game where the objective was amassing wealth in some form - paintings, coins, property, etc - but the one form presented in that game that stuck out in my mind for a long time was sports collectibles. Now, I've collected baseball cards on and off since around 1983/84, at the beginning of the junk wax era. Fast forward to 2012 when my little boy was born, I thought, what can I pass along to him that is something I've loved for a long time that he can share along with me - the love for playing and watching baseball. That board game popped into my mind! It led me back to the hobby.

In the beginning, I had no idea who or what to collect and was all over the place. After a few years, I settled on Ken Griffey Jr (loved him growing up) and Hank Aaron (love my Braves). I have bought, sold, and traded lots of cards over the past 8 years, but haven't parted with any of my Hank Aaron collection. And at 8 years old, my boy knows so much more baseball than I ever imagined. I hope that one day, far from now, he and I can enjoy looking at those little pieces of art and chat about what drove me back to the hobby - my child's birth and board game....thanks for the blog Sooz! I enjoy it! - Chris

When I first got back into collecting cards, I started collecting players when I would get a good card of theirs out of a pack and decide hey let’s get some more cards of this player. Sometimes I would start collecting a player who I thought was underrated and going to break out, or someone who was really good but overlooked. Sometimes it was bc a player seemed like a really cool guy. Like Amir Garrett. Max Kepler and Carlos Santana too. I also speak Spanish and thought it was cool to collect Latino players like amed Rosario. I still haven’t fully honed or focused what and who I collect, But it’s a process I enjoyed.

What my PC is Vikings, White Sox, Blackhawks, NIU Huskies players and Bulls for teams dont matter what player it is I will collect them with them being with that team for a year or all there career. I have a nascar collection with Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski, Dale Jr , Mark Martin , Menards drivers and HOF/Retired drivers autos. I have non team or players from these PC teams up there that players never played for any of these teams . So it started in 2013 I was looking to collect players who are not even on my teams had some people say Ryan Nassib and Allen Robinson so I looked both of them up and grabbed a few of there cards thinking it would be a small PC. Nope I have over 100+ of both of these players base, inserts, relics and autos and if someone comes across any of there cards they try to get them to me. But one thing of Allen Robinson I wont buy his Bears cards that cant be in my PC being a Vikings fan lol... And a strange PC that's not card related is collecting Beer Koozies I have over 300 or more of different ones
